Pack & Smooch on Tour: Hej Sverige!

Hamburg goes high-profile ‑ in miniature. In September the international marketing roadshow of the ‘City on the Elbe’ stopped in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city (aka Göteborg) for two days, transforming its town hall square Gustaf-Adolfs-Torg into a mini-version of Hamburg port just a few square metres in size. The Elbe river ran through the square as a three-dimensional work of street art as part of the programme “Hamburg on Tour: Hej Göteborg”, replete with virtual Reeperbahn tours. This two-day event organised by Hamburg Marketing GmbH was managed on-site by our friend and partner Marno Happ.

Showing the Swedes our bags, cases and accessories on their home territory

Tourist attractions and Hanseatic specialities awaited Swedish visitors as businesses and institutions of the City on the Elbe presented themselves and their products at Gustaf-Adolfs-Torg square, and Pack & Smooch bags, cases and accessories were there as well. Some 100,000 tourists from the homeland of Billy and Pax visit Hamburg each year, and more than 800 firms in the vicinity of the Alster conduct foreign trade with Sweden. It thus makes sense for Swedes to be made familiar with Corriedale, Kirkby and Valet Tray right there at home.

When Hamburg shows off its best, Pack & Smooch is in the picture, as our products stand for innovative design, local production and environmentally friendly materials: proven products that are cosmopolitan, chic and always contemporary. In Gothenburg we were in excellent company with the Hamburg artist group “A Wall Is A Screen” who showed the locals their own city from a different perspective in a combination virtual city tour/open-air cinema for short films by Hamburg movie makers. Musical entertainment was provided in partnership with BID Reeperbahn+, the 48h Wilhelmsburg Festival and the Hanse Song Festival. The most prominent guest appearing as part of Hamburg on Tour was the Elbphilharmonie ‑ or rather an 80 square-metre interactive module presenting the new concert hall.

The Hanseatic city regularly holds Hamburg on Tour events in major international cities, appearing in Copenhagen and Vienna before presenting in Gothenburg. The primary goal behind the event series is to “communicate a positive image for Hamburg in a charming way that stimulates interest in Hamburg’s political and business life among those living in the various markets”, commented Thorsten Kausch, Managing Director of Hamburg Convention Bureau GmbH and of Hamburg Marketing GmbH.
